that’s what she said…

I haven’t written anything in a while, mostly because nothing has occurred in my life worth writing about. melanie got a call from an old friend earlier this evening and was playing catch-up when I thought I should write something. rachel and jeremias are going out to utah (home of the fighting mormons!) for his new position at southern utah university, congratulations by the way, and I am sitting in self-pity because I am struggling to get an adjunct job rather than celebrating my friend’s success like I should be. I have been embarrassed to admit that I have taken a job at lenscrafters as an optician to make ends meet while I try to get work and shows as an artist. it was during their conversation that I remembered that american photographer ralph eugene meatyard was an optician here in lexington during his entire artistic career. I am no meatyard, but it does give me a certain sense of hope to think that my career may be slow to develop, but I am not the only photographic artist to work a regular nine to five job while slowly plugging away at my own artwork. so as I sit here, almost midnight, in my underwear and listening to brazilian funk music, I am beginning to formulate new work. I feel inspired by my good friend jay and his penchant for science, but mostly by my interest in science and theology as a single concept instead of the usual opponents they tend to be. my new set of used strobes should be arriving soon, so I hope to explore this line of thinking in ways foreign to me.

how quickly things change

this has been an unseasonably cold winter this year in kentucky. we had record lows in february that quickly changed to record highs in march. some days were actually in the low 80′s, even before the official start of spring. then we had a storm come through a few days ago.storm 1 1
campbellsville, a little southwest of us, had several reports of tornadoes that night. the temperature dropped 50+ degrees by morning, and we have even gotten a little snow since then. I blame canada. we had a good thing going with this global warming thing, and they had to go and ruin it.
